1. Educational use only
All content provided through Dr. Gideon Afolabi Wellness — including the Symptom Checker, Plant Identifier, Herbal Encyclopedia, Health Tracker, Vitality Test, Biological Age Calculator, Heart Risk Score, Mind Screen, Cycle Tracker, Sleep Apnea Screen, Men's Health Screen and Hydration Calculator — is intended strictly for general educational and informational purposes. The Service is not a medical device. It does not establish a doctor-patient relationship. It is not designed to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
2. Not a substitute for professional advice
Always consult a qualified physician, pharmacist or other licensed healthcare provider before: starting or stopping any medication, supplement or herb; making any change to a chronic-disease management plan; pursuing self-treatment for a new or worsening symptom; making any decision based on information obtained from the Service. Do not delay seeking medical attention because of information you read on the Service.
3. Medical emergencies
If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency — including but not limited to chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or paralysis on one side, slurred speech, severe head injury, severe allergic reaction, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, or any other condition that may pose a threat to life or limb — stop using the Service immediately and call your local emergency number or visit the nearest emergency department.
4. Self-screening tools are NOT diagnoses
Self-screening tools provided on the Service (Heart Risk Score, Mind Screen, Sleep Apnea Screen, Biological Age Calculator, Men's Health Screen, Hydration Calculator and Vitality Test) are educational estimators. They use published, validated clinical scales (GAD-7, PHQ-9, IIEF-5, STOP-BANG, Epworth, ACC/AHA Pooled Cohort Equations and Institute of Medicine hydration guidelines), but they cannot replace a clinical examination, laboratory tests, imaging or a physician's integrated judgement. A "low risk" score is not a guarantee of health. A "high risk" score is not a definitive diagnosis. Discuss any score with your clinician.
5. Herbal remedies — important precautions
Herbal remedies are powerful and can interact with prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and other supplements. Some can be harmful in high doses, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in children, in people with kidney, liver or heart disease, or before surgery. Examples include: St John's wort (interacts with antidepressants, birth control, blood thinners, anti-rejection drugs); kava (can affect the liver); ephedra (cardiovascular risk); horny goat weed and yohimbe (cardiovascular interactions); berberine (blood-sugar interactions). Always disclose every herb, supplement and food you take to your physician and pharmacist. Stop any herb 7-14 days before scheduled surgery unless your surgeon advises otherwise.
6. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and children
Many herbs are not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding (for example, dong quai, blue cohosh, pennyroyal, ephedra and high-dose vitex). Pediatric dosing for herbs is not well established. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, or considering use in a child, consult your obstetrician, midwife or pediatrician before starting any remedy mentioned on the Service.
7. Plant Identifier limitations
The Plant Identifier uses photographic recognition technology that, while accurate, is not infallible. Misidentification can occur. Never ingest, apply topically, or otherwise use any plant based solely on the Service's identification. Many plants have toxic look-alikes. Always cross-verify with a qualified botanist or trained herbalist before any use.
8. Symptom Checker limitations
The Symptom Checker matches user-reported symptoms to traditional and evidence-supported herbal remedies. It does not diagnose disease. Identical symptoms can arise from radically different underlying causes — some benign, some life-threatening. A trained clinician with access to your history, examination findings and tests is the only source of a reliable diagnosis.
9. Allergies and adverse reactions
Any plant or herb can cause an allergic reaction. Discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately if you experience hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, persistent rash, dizziness or other adverse reaction after taking a herbal product. Report serious adverse reactions to your country's pharmacovigilance authority.
